Weekly Update (Chicago Style) | | New: Arts & Crafts Summer Class Though our Little Fingers/Busy Hands classes are taking the summer off, we're still committed to working on Fine Motor programming, in a little different vein. Announcing our new Arts & Crafts Summer Class. The class (for kids aged 6-12 and their siblings) begins May 6, and will meet the first Sunday of every month from 10-11 a.m. through August. As with all of our programming, this class is free. Interested? Download a registration form here, and return it to chicago@gigisplayhouse.org. | | Don't Forget The 5K Our Ninth Annual Chicagoland 5K is fast approaching. There's something for everyone: a 5K run, a 1-mile walk and our heralded "Dash for Down syndrome" (which, if you haven't seen it, may be the most fun you'll witness all year). The event takes place on Sunday, June 10 at 8:30 a.m., meaning there's still time to register. Click this link, set up a team and tell your friends and family to join you (or at least offer their support). This is our biggest fundraiser of the year, and it's a great time to boot. We're still soliciting sponsorships for the event as well. If you own a business, work for a business or know someone who owns or works for a business, this is a great marketing opportunity to get their name in front of a highly motivated (and loyal) audience. Download a sponsorship brochure here. Deadline is May 4. | | | Calendar of Events Open Play/Cabin Fever Buster! 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. Children's entertainer Tracey Ellert is coming to entertain during our regularly scheduled Open Play. Registration is now open. Get a team together and sign up here. | | | | Donor Focus A big thank you to Jenna Bolser, who -- when trying to think of a gift for her mother's birthday -- offered a donation to the Playhouse. "After searching high and low for something to get her, I realized she probably doesn't need anymore 'stuff,'" Jenna tells us. Instead, knowing her mother (who is "super passionate" about kids with special needs after working as a special ed teacher) would appreciate the gesture, made a monetary donation in her mother's name. Clearly, mom's passion translated to her daughter who is one of our literacy tutors. We'll be using her donation to help fund our literacy program. We're sure Jenna's mother is just as proud of her as we are. | On Our Way to 1,000 Our campaign to expand our Facebook group is ongoing. Want an easy way to help? Go to our group (we assume you're already a member), and on the right hand side, there should be a list of your friends who might be interested in joining. It's a simple click of the mouse to add them, so go ahead and do it. Or, just send out a mass invite to them using Facebook's messaging tools. | | | | | | |
